Betws Y Coed,Royal Oak Hotel,North Wales - Cat was NOT killed with a rolling pin at Betws y Coed hotel says manager

Outraged animal lovers have taken to social media to express their horror and have called for a boycott of the Royal Oak Hotel

The manager of a Betws y Coed hotel at the centre of a cat killing investigation today denied a social media claim the animal was battered with a rolling pin.
Royal Oak Hotel boss Glen Evans said staff had killed a feral cat but refused to reveal how it met its death last Friday .
The RSPCA last confirmed it was investigating the incident and the hotel said in a statement the cat was 'humanely euthanised' after 'posing a threat'.
Mr Evans added: “In hindsight of course I wish things were dealt with differently.
“But unless new information comes to light the staff have not done anything unlawful."
Outraged animal lovers today took to social media to express their horror and called for a boycott of the landmark hotel. The hotel’s Facebook page has been taken down after being flooded with negative comments.
Louise Miller Cooper commented on the Daily Post Facebook page: “Never again will I visit this hotel. Disgusting!!! I didn’t think you could just “kill a cat” to protect guests?!
“Why didn’t they just ring the RSPCA in the first place? I hope they pay for their actions, vile excuse for humans! God help any other wondering animal in Betws y Coed!”
Hazel Jones commented: “They should be horse whipped and The Royal Oak Hotel at Betws Y Coed North Wales should make headlines in every news paper they make me ashamed to be Welsh.”
Peter McFadden added: “I’ve had a feral cat living in my barns for over three years. My cat is not vermin and it is not a health hazard. “Everybody should support feral cats.”
Diane Hildreth Osborn said: “Imagine if this barbaric act had been carried out in the street by yobs........it wouldn’t have been described as ‘humanely euthanised’ then would it? Feral cats are more often scared witless, and would look to escape anywhere they felt trapped."
Anne Elizabeth Arkle said : “Hope they’re prosecuted for this, pure evil, and hope people boycott this place. I will never ever go here again!”
But Jo Owen defended hotel staff. “What happened to the kitten was disgusting!!!" he said. "But boycotting the Place? it will be the innocent members of staff that will suffer! Lots of people depending on hours before Xmas. Sack the persons involved and any management that condoned this behaviour.”
An RSPCA officer has been to the hotel and interviewed staff.
Mr Evans claimed staff spent eight hours trying to capture the cat.
He said: “I can confirm the cat was not killed by a rolling pin, which has been said on social media.
“The cat wasn’t a kitten. It was a young cat and had been hanging around for a couple of days and probably got into the hotel premises because it has been very cold recently.”
“The staff dealt with an unexpected situation which represented a significant health and safety hazard.
“A member of staff spent eight hours trying to catch the cat, but as it was feral it was pretty impossible to catch although obviously it was contained in the end.”
He added: “We understand people feel emotional about what has happened and it’s very regrettable, but the feral cat was smelly, vicious and posed a threat.”
