Police are looking for a man in connection with an armed robbery at a post office in Newport on Monday afternoon
Police are looking for a man who was carrying what appeared to be a gun in a plastic bag when he demanded money from a Post Office.
Gwent Police are investigating an armed robbery which happened on Monday afternoon at the Post Office on Caerphilly Road in Bassaleg, Newport at around 1pm.
A police spokeswoman said: " A man police are looking for in connection with this incident, is described as white, 6ft tall, wearing a balaclava, black hat, black blazer, black tie and shoes.
"He was carrying what appeared to be gun, in a plastic carrier bag.
"He demanded money but then made off, turning right out of the shop and right on to Laurel Drive."
Police are particularly interested in speaking with any witnesses who were in the area at the time or anyone who has any information.
People are being warned not to approach the man.
Superintendent Glyn Fernquest said: "These types of incidents are rare in Gwent Police area but we are determined to bring those who commit these serious crimes to justice.
"Please be reassured that we are doing everything possible to find this individual and ensure the safety of local residents.
"Officers are in the area, providing a visible presence, if anyone has any concerns, please speak to our officers who are there to help.”
Anyone who sees the man should report any sightings or information to the police on 101 or 999 if an emergency, quoting log number 246 05/09/16.
