A road rage driver who hit a seven-year-old boy in the face when he threw a mobile phone he snatched from the youngster’s father pleaded guilty to assault.
Karl Turner, 41, was driving in Craig y Don when he was bumped by a Jaguar being driven by the boy’s dad.
Bare-chested Turner jumped out of his Mondeo and began shouting at the boy’s dad, calling him a four-letter name and saying he was going to “f***ing kill” him.
When the boy’s father decided to call police and activated the recorder on his phone, Turner grabbed the mobile and threw it into the back of the car.
The phone hit the boy on the forehead, making him cry.
Prosecturor James Neary told Llandudno magistrates court that the whole incident happened in view of a children’s play ground.
He added: “It’s not the behaviour you expect to see in the vicinity of a children’s playground, with members of the public looking on.”
Sarah Yates, defending, said: “The defendant doesn’t accept he threatened to kill anyone or trying to grab the chest. He accepts shouting and swearing. He didn’t see the child, it was a reckless assault for which he apologises.
“His own two children were in his car and he’s remorseful.” He had over-reacted, she said.
The court was told that Turner, unemployed, has just finished a community order, imposed for the production of cannabis.
He pleaded guilty to assault and using threatening behaviour and was put on a 9pm to 7pm curfew for four months, and given another community order to run for the same time.
He was told to pay £100 compensation to the little boy, £50 to the father and £170 in costs.
As the hearing ended, Turner, of Appleton Court in Conwy Road, Colwyn Bay , was criticised by bench chairman Peter Hughes for turning up in shorts and a t-shirt.
“It’s all I own, mate”, Turner told him.
