Wrexham,North Wales - Man who attacked Christmas shopper with his brother jailed

Michael Thomas Butterfield, of Heol y Plas, Cefn Mawr, launched the unprovoked street attack alongside his brother Ashley

The second of two brothers who launched an unprovoked street attack on a man doing his Christmas shopping has been jailed.
The victim suffered a fractured cheek and other injuries when he was attacked by Michael Thomas Butterfield and his brother Ashley Philip Butterfield outside a chip shop in Wrexham on December 23.
The 24-year-old sales representative, of Heol y Plas, Cefn Mawr, appeared for sentence at Mold Crown Court today.
He had earlier admitted assault, which put him in breach of a crown court suspended sentence.
Judge Niclas Parry sentenced him to six months for the assault and activated five months from a previous suspended sentence.
He received a 14-day sentence for being drunk and disorderly and resisting arrest, making a total sentence of 11 and a half months.
Judge Parry told him he had been given a chance of a suspended sentence for a nasty theft in breach of trust.
However, while on bail and on a suspended sentence, he attacked a man with another.

The attack involved repeated punching and the victim was knocked to the floor, the court heard.
“It is clearly time for the public to be given a rest from you,” the judge told him.
The court heard the victim was a CCTV operator who was attacked as he did some Christmas shopping.
He was walking along Market Street when he heard a man shouting aggressively: “Do you know who I am?”
As he approached a chip shop in Crescent Close, he saw Ashley Butterfield, who he recognised from his work as a CCTV operator.
He had to pass between them but, as he did so, Ashley turned and bumped into him and he was then set upon by both brothers.
Michael Butterfield was on a 10-month suspended prison sentence for stealing £3,500 worth of jewellery from the mother of a woman he was in a relationship with.
Defending barrister Myles Wilson said that drink was his downfall but his client was a different man when sober.
He was remorseful for the joint assault with his brother and had been shocked when he was shown CCTV of the incident.
The defendant did throw punches but it was clear that it was his brother who started the hostilities and threw more punches than he did, said Mr Wilson.
Ashley Butterfield, who was found to have a lock knife on him following the attack, was jailed at a special Boxing Day magistrates’ court.
The 22-year-old, of Holborn Crescent in Wrexham, admitted a joint charge of assault and occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was jailed for a total of 42 weeks - 26 weeks for the offences and 16 weeks from a previous suspended sentence.
Magistrates told him that he appeared to thrive on and enjoy inflicting injury on others.
