A man who punched a teenage girl in the face while in a “filthy temper” after being asked to leave a party has been jailed.
Stuart Lane-Davies admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm after he was asked to leave the house party at a flat in the Pentwyn area of Cardiff.
Speaking at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday, defence barrister Heath Edwards said his client had “difficulties controlling his anger”.
Defendant's behaviour 'obnoxious'
The court heard the offence occurred at a flat in Bryn Celyn on Sunday, May 28.
Prosecutor Tony Trigg described the defendant’s behaviour as “obnoxious”, telling the court he had started to argue with other people at the party.
Mr Trigg said the 18-year-old from Pant Glas left when he was asked, but continued to hang around outside the flat.
The court heard he threatened to hit a teenage girl who came to the window and she responded: “Go on then.”
The prosecutor said: “He punched her in the nose through the open window. She was stunned and fell backwards on to the floor.”
Face covered in blood
Police officers were called and arrived to find the girl lying on the floor with her face covered in blood.
Mr Trigg said she suffered a fractured nose and had to have an operation under general anaesthetic.
When the defendant was later arrested at his home address, he denied doing anything wrong.
He admitted the offence at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court in August, along with a charge of failing to surrender to bail.
The court heard Lane-Davies had three convictions for eight offences, including common assault, and that he had assaulted his own family members.
Mr Edwards, defending, said: “It is clear from his record he has difficulties controlling his anger.”
'He needs to address his anger issues'
He said his client did not intend to cause injury to the complainant, adding: “He knows he cannot go on simply lashing out when his temper comes to the fore.
“He understands that he needs to address his anger issues.”
Mr Edwards asked for “one last chance” for his client, explaining he had found custody “deeply shocking and deeply unpleasant”.
Judge Fitton said the offence was aggravated by the defendant’s previous convictions.
He added: “It was an extremely unpleasant assault – there was no justification, no provocation.
“You were in a filthy temper because you were asked to leave. You have a filthy temper – you have shown that with your past behaviour.”
Lane-Davies, who appeared via video link from HMP Cardiff, was sentenced to 24 weeks in prison and ordered to pay a £140 victim surcharge.
