Prestatyn,North Wales - Dyserth Falls investor losses 'may total £7m' claim action group

The resort near Prestatyn is currently the subject of a fraud investigation

Timeshare owners who invested in a resort which is currently the subject of a fraud investigation are considering taking their own legal action.
Earlier this week it was revealed that North Wales Police are investigating the affairs of the Dyserth Falls Resort , formerly known as Graig Park Hotel.
It follows complaints from many of the investors in the 32 timeshare lodges on the site, which closed temporarily in January, 2015 , but then reopened.
They claim they were victims of “fractional ownership” when the company failed to honour an agreement to take over their contracts on other timeshares in return for moving to Dyserth Falls.
That left them having to pay for two properties.
They believe that the total losses incurred by investors could be over £7m.
An action group was set up last year and the matter was referred to the Serious Fraud Office and National Crime Agency.
Group spokesman Malcolm Pitt said: “We are still plodding on, frustrated by the lack of action by the authorities and also not being able to find the remaining 700 families sold fractional ownership at Dyserth Falls.”
He said they had failed to reach agreement with any of the parties they feel were responsible for their losses and were now considering legal action.
He said they would persevere even though laws such as the Data Protection Act prevented them from obtaining details of all those who had lost money.
“We feel that we who have suffered losses in excess of £7m are just left out in the field with the grass dying under us,” he said.
Dyserth Falls Resort have been asked to comment.

Police arrested a 41-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of growing cannabis

A man has been arrested following a drugs raid in Denbighshire today.
Police swooped on a property on the outskirts of Ruthin this morning.
Officers said they uncovered a significant amount of what is believed to be cannabis and police enquiries are ongoing.
The 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the cultivation of cannabis and remains in police custody.
Inspector Glen Brumby from the Local Policing Team said: “We will continue to take positive action against those who are involved in the possession and distribution of controlled drugs.
“However, we can’t tackle this problem alone and we need the community to help us by sharing their concerns with us.”
He said information may be passed to police by speaking to local officers or PCSOs or by contacting the control room direct via the new web live chat.
Information may also be given to police by phoning 101, through Facebook, Twitter or by phoning Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Anglesey,North Wales - Men jailed after violent far-right clashes

Anglesey men Nathan Waller, 18, of Maes Meuri, Gwalchmai, left and Richard Williams, 31, from Bryngwran have been jailed for two years after pleading guilty to violent disorder
Anglesey men Nathan Waller, 18, of Maes Meuri, Gwalchmai, left and Richard Williams, 31, from Bryngwran have been jailed for two years after pleading guilty to violent disorder

Richard Williams and Nathan Waller were sentenced to two years for their part in the disorder that broke out at an anti-racism demo in Kent

Two men have been jailed after clashing with anti-racism protesters earlier this year.
Richard Williams of Bryngwran and Nathan Waller of Gwalchmai, Anglesey were among six men who were sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court last Thursday for their involvement in violent demonstrations in Kent last January.
Smoke bombs were released and bricks thrown as police tried to control hundreds of far-right demonstrators marching through the Kent town amid clashes with anti-racism demonstrators.
The clash took place on January 30 when rallies were held by the left wing groups Dover Stand Up 2 Racism (DSUR) and the Kent Anti Racism Network (KARN) colliding with separate demonstrations involving The National Front and other right-wing organisations.
Both were sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to violent disorder.
According to Kent Police, Williams had been filmed kicking a man who was already being assaulted by a fellow protester, as well as throwing objects at others. Waller, meanwhile, was also caught on camera assaulting a man with a number of other protestors.
Detective Constable Kirsty Bricknell of Kent Police said: “These six men contributed to some of the most appalling violence I have ever witnessed, causing a great deal of anguish for the people of Dover who were unfortunate enough to have had their town identified as the location for these demonstrations.
“Kent Police has a statutory duty to facilitate peaceful protest but it has become obvious that many of those who attended on the day had no intention of doing anything other than fighting with those who held differing opinions to themselves.
“Their behaviour was unacceptable and I hope these results send a clear message that such criminal actions will not be tolerated in Dover or anywhere else in Kent.’
Both Williams, 31, and Waller, 18, were members of the Infidels of North Wales group, which arranged a demonstration in Llangefni last year in protest against mass immigration, the “Islamification of Britain” and the “hiding of sex offenders and paedophiles in our hostels and villages”.

Bangor,North Wales - Man jailed for letting drug supplier stash heroin and cash in his van

A Bangor man who allowed his drug supplier to stash heroin and cash in his van has been jailed for two and a half years.
Anthony Jason Riley, 43, was told by a judge that he had been motivated by financial or other advantage to allow his supplier to keep money and drugs in his vehicle.
Mr Recorder Paul Thomas QC, sitting at Mold Crown Court on Friday afternoon, said he took into account the delay in the case which dated back to June 2014.
Police raided his home in Troed y Castell, Bangor, and found ignition keys which fitted a van parked outside the premises, he said.
The van was searched and inside were two bags of heroin, just over 49 grammes, which had a 32 per cent purity.
It was valued on the streets at more than £2,250, and £855 in cash was also seized.
Riley first told the police it was his, and indicated that he would take the blame for it.
However, in the run up to his trial, he suggested that it was not his at all, and even suggested that the police had tried to frame him, the judge said.
On the day of his trial, he pleaded guilty on the basis that the heroin was not his but that he had allowed his vehicle to be used as a stash by his own supplier.
“It is an important feature that suppliers of class A drugs have to have a safe haven in which to store their drugs,” said the judge.
“While you were not involved in the supply of heroin to others, you were playing an important role on behalf of the retailer of that awful substance by allowing him to use your van as a safe haven for drugs and money.”
Riley’s case was aggravated by his previous convictions.
The judge said that he took into account the delay in the case, his guilty plea and basis of plea, his health problems and personal circumstances.
He said the sentence would be reduced from a starting point of three years.
Prosecuting barrister Jonathan Austin said the defendant’s basis of plea, that he was a custodian of the heroin for another, had been accepted at an earlier occasion.
Police found the keys at his home, simply pressed a button on the key and the lights came on the van outside, and the drugs and cash were discovered inside.
Peter Moss, defending, said his client’s trial had been adjourned a number of times and there had been significant delays.
While he had allowed someone to use the van outside, he had not known the extent of what was going on, he said.
He played no part in any dealing himself, and there was no DNA to link him with the drugs.
The position was that he got some free drugs for allowing his vehicle to be used that way.
“This is a matter of some considerable antiquity,” said Mr Moss.

Anglesey,North Wales - Land Rover Defender thefts prompt police warning to owners

Land Rover celebrated 68 years of history today as the last of the current Defenders was produced at its famous Solihull production facility. To mark the occasion Land Rover invited more than 700 current and former Solihull employees involved in the production of Series Land Rover and Defender vehicles.

Production on the iconic model, which has strong links to Anglesey, stopped in January this year

Owners of an iconic model of Land Rover have been urged to be extra vigilant after a spate of thefts on Anglesey which police believe to be linked.
According to North Wales Police, three almost identical Land Rover Defenders have been stolen while parked-up on the island during the past three weeks.
Two of them were stolen in broad daylight with the other overnight.
The thefts took place in Beaumaris, Four Crosses and the most recent, last Saturday, in theSouth Stack area of Holyhead.
The Defender model has strong links to Anglesey , with the vehicle based on the original design created by Maurice Wilks at Red Wharf Bay in 1947.
But the last ever Land Rover Defender rolled off the production line in January.
Sgt Emma Williams, North Wales Police Community Safety lead for Gwynedd and Anglesey said “ At each of the scenes there is no evidence of smashed glass and as the vehicles had been secured by their owners, one possibility we are examining is offenders had a duplicate key or other similar device.
“It may therefore be prudent to think about steering locks or other security measures.
“All three, which are dark blue and 1990’s models, are still outstanding and it is likely the registration numbers have been altered but the vehicles may still be local so we are keen to hear from anyone who has recently seen Land Rover Defenders particularly in suspicious circumstances.”
Last March the Daily Post reported how a Land Rover Defender had been stolen from the Rhosneigr area last March, prompting police to issue an appeal for information.

Sergeant Williams concluded: “It is really important vehicle owners take steps to deter opportunists and avoid becoming a victim of crime.
Please take a little extra time to check your vehicle when you leave it and if possible, remove all items of value and lock the vehicle ensuring any alarm or immobiliser is activated.
“Our investigations will continue however it must be stressed that we need assistance from our local communities to reduce incidents of this nature and identify those responsible in the first instance. “Remain vigilant at all times, always ensure your property is locked and secured and if you see any suspicious behaviour contact police immediately”
Anyone with any information that could assist Police are asked to call 101.

Orme Road, Bangor where a man broke into a house and terrified two women
A woman has told of her terror after being woken in the early hours by an intruder trying to get into her bedroom.
The man then made his way into her housemate’s room, who let out “piercing screams” as he touched her before stealing a phone.
The terrifying incident happened in Orme Road, Bangor just after 2.30am today.
A 22-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of burglary.
A 19-year-old, who lives at the property told the Daily Post her ordeal was “like something out of a horror film”.
She said she “froze” when she saw someone was trying her door handle but the door was locked.
'When I heard the piercing screams, they were like horror film scream'
Her student housemate’s door wasn’t and seconds later, she heard her screaming.
The woman who asked not to be identified said: “When I heard the piercing screams, they were like horror film screams and I knew then that there was an intruder in the house.
“I froze, I didn’t know what to do, I knew I needed to help but I had nothing in my room that I could use as a weapon.
“The walls are so thin in the house and her bedroom is right next to mine.
“I knew if I rang the police, he would hear me so I messaged a friend on Facebook to call for help.”
She added: “A few minutes later, I could hear my flat mate crying hysterically, I listened out and it sounded like the man had gone.
'Her face went blank as if they shock had hit her'
“I told her to lock her door and then called 999 but I still didn’t leave my room in case he was waiting outside the door.
“When the police arrived I came out of my room and noticed the burglar had damaged the bathroom and there was toothpaste all down my friend’s door and hand smudges all down my door, it was really creepy.
“She could barely talk to the police, her face went blank as if the shock had hit her.
“She managed to give them a brief description as she had caught sight of him because he had a torch.
“The whole thing left us both scared to death.”
After their ordeal, the women went to stay with relatives but the 19-year-old said this is the second time in two months that a man has got into the property.
“I was traumatised after the first break-in, that’s why I keep my door locked,” she said.
“My housemate is so shaken by what’s happened, I don’t think she will want to come back.”
A North Wales Police spokeswoman said: “We were contacted shortly after 3am this morning (Wednesday, August 31) to a report that a man had entered a property on Orme Road, Bangor.
“Officers attended and arrested a 22-year-old man nearby.
“He currently remains in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of burglary.
“Enquiries are ongoing and anybody who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour in or around Orme Road in Bangor is asked to contact officers at Bangor CID on 101 or via the live web chat quoting reference number U131836.”
