Llandudno,North Wales - Decision to dump thousands of stones on Llandudno's North Shore beach defended by Conwy Council director

A decision to dump thousands of tonnes of stones onto a popular beach has been defended by a retiring council chief.

The authority's strategic director for the environment Ken Finch said the stones are vital to minimise floods as he prepares to retire

Ken Finch, Conwy County Borough Council’s strategic director in charge of the environment, said the stones were vital to minimise the risk of flooding at Llandudno ’s North Shore.
The 61-year-old said people had discussed putting in groynes in Llandudno Bay as long ago as 1906. Mostyn Street was flooded in the 1930s and the shore is still vulnerable in bad weather.
Last month, Conwy Council’s communities overview and scrutiny committee approved plans to review how North Shore beach is managed , a move backed by Llandudno Coastal Forum.
Mr Finch said: “The review will balance coastal protection, amenity, leisure and commercial interests. But coastal protection is vital.”#
He said stones deposited on North Shore in 2013 replenished stones brought in by barge in 2000.
